OF TOMASZ MILANOWSKI’S PAINTING AND “FLUCTUATIONS”, BY MAGDALENA SOŁTYS, CURATOR OF THE EXHIBITION

In the latest collection of works (because it is difficult to talk about a series, account taken of its certain rigorism that is absent in Milanowski; he opened a few tracks) what strikes is the dynamism of the convention, the element of surprise. Seeing the entire exhibition is supposed to convey the impression that these paintings “swirl” – they pass “the buck” to each other; one way, another way, directly and reversely, and changeably at that. Milanowski is new without a doubt, amazingly new – but, essentially, he macerated his experiences in this new. The sieve, fresh inspirations, maturity – it all gave it the new quality. It stems from consistency, and not from negation or escape.

And here painting is just painting itself. The exhibition presented in the Very White Gallery, consists solely of images painted specifically for the occasion, it is a premiere, of course.
