Stanisław Baj (born in 1953) – painter, Professor in the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Artist of tremendous exhibition activity. He has taken an exceptional and separate place on the map of Polish contemporary art.
In Stanisław Baj’s works the view of the Bug river from near his home village is a recurring theme. Until recently the artist painted landscapes depicting the river by day, focusing not only on capturing the surface of the water but also waterside vegetation. Landscapes painted for more than a year show the river at dusk as characterised by muted and dark grey colours. Black prevails in these pictures but it is softened with orange, green and red, thanks to which numerous nuances appear in the compositions.
